Same-day dispatch 20+ years of locksmith experience Licensed · Bonded · Insured

If you’ve lost a motorcycle key or bought a used bike with only one fob, you’ve probably noticed most hardware stores and even some locksmiths wave you off. Motorcycle key systems use the same transponder and rolling-code technology as cars, but the tools, key blanks, and programming procedures are bike-specific — and fewer shops carry them.

What programming actually involves

Most motorcycles built in the last two decades use an immobilizer: the ECU only lets the engine start if it recognizes a transponder chip inside the key. Programming a replacement means cutting a blank to match your ignition, then pairing the chip to the bike’s ECU with a diagnostic tool built for that manufacturer’s protocol. Some bikes (a lot of Harley-Davidson and BMW models, for example) also use a separate fob for the alarm or keyless system, which is a second pairing step.

If you have zero working keys, the job takes longer — we sometimes need to access the ECU directly or, on certain models, order a replacement lock cylinder set. If you still have one working key, we can usually add a spare on-site without touching the ECU at all.

Why we come to you

We run mobile service across our Philadelphia, South Jersey, and Wilmington markets, so the job happens wherever the bike is — a driveway, a parking garage, the side of the road. We carry a range of motorcycle key blanks and programming equipment in the van, but on rare makes with proprietary dealer-only software, we’ll tell you upfront if that’s the case rather than charging you for a trip we can’t finish.

What to have ready

  • Proof of ownership (registration or title) — for immobilizer-equipped bikes, this is a reasonable ask before anyone cuts a key, and we ask for it every time.
  • The bike’s VIN, which is usually stamped near the steering head — this tells us the exact key/ignition system before we arrive.
  • Any working key or fob you still have, even a badly worn one.
