But a claims adjuster reviewing a burglary claim is generally looking for two things: proof the point of entry was secured or repaired, and proof the locks were changed so the same vulnerability doesn’t get exploited twice.

Every job comes with a dated invoice describing the work performed — which locks were rekeyed or replaced, at which entry points, and by whom. That paperwork is exactly what most adjusters ask for; we’re not guessing what your specific policy requires, so always confirm directly with your insurer what documentation they need before or alongside the repair.
Rekey vs. replace
If the break-in involved forcing the door itself — a cracked jamb, a kicked-in deadbolt strike — the hardware may need replacing, not just rekeying. We’ll tell you which applies before starting, and photograph the damage if it’s useful for your claim.
