What's specific about Kia keys.

Kia runs on the Hyundai-Kia platform, with its own immobilizer and smart-key system. The Telluride is the highest-volume current Kia model — full-size SUV with smart-key proximity. The K5 (replacing the Optima) uses the current Kia smart-key. EV6 and EV9 use the same physical fob platform plus Digital Key. Genesis (Hyundai's luxury arm) and Kia share underlying mechanicals but Kia keys are distinct fobs.

Dealer vs. mobile locksmith

Kia key — dealer vs. us.

We do the same programming as the Kia dealer, with the same dealer-grade equipment, on-site instead of at the service drive.

FAQ

Common Kia questions.

Can you do a Kia Telluride smart key in our driveway?

Yes — Telluride is the most common Kia call. Smart key with proximity entry, programmed in your driveway in 30–60 minutes.

What about the Carnival minivan (the replacement for the Sedona)?

Carnival uses the standard Kia smart-key platform. Same programming approach. Common family-vehicle lost-key call.

Do you handle EV6 and EV9 electric keys?

Yes. EV6 and EV9 use the standard Kia smart-key plus Digital Key support. EV powertrain doesn't change the key programming. Within our equipment coverage.

Older Kia Optima — still supported?

Yes. Optima (now K5) used Kia transponder and smart-key systems depending on year. All generations within our equipment coverage.

Does the 'Vehicle Theft Software Upgrade' (Kia Boys / TikTok vulnerability) recall apply to my Kia? Can you do it?

The recall is dealer-only — Kia America handles the Vehicle Theft Software Upgrade through authorized Kia service centers, free of charge for affected models. The vulnerability is specific to Kia bladed (twist-ignition) models that shipped without a factory immobilizer — that was the cost-cut configuration on most pre-2022 bladed-key Kias. Kia started fitting immobilizers to bladed-key models in 2022, so 2022+ bladed-key cars and all push-to-start models are not affected. We don't perform the recall fix itself. We do handle everything else on affected Kias — key replacement, key duplication, lock changes after a theft attempt, and lockouts.
